Stars in Super Mario glitter and shine in rainbow colors, and with this simple technique, your painting can, too. Salt and watercolors make a super colorful Mario star!
What You Need
- Construction paper or watercolor paper
- Star template (below)
- Black permanent marker
Begin by printing this Star template. Cut the star out of the paper, and trace it in the center of your construction paper or watercolor paper.
Draw the two eyes in the center.
Outline the star and the outside of star’s eyes in school glue. Fill in the entire star with a thin layer of glue, leaving the eyes without glue.
Next, sprinkle the salt over the glue, covering the star completely. Let dry (possibly overnight).
Once dry, shake the salt from the star. Lightly brush the salt from the edges of the star and inside the eyes to remove it from the paper.
Next, use the paintbrush to dab watercolors into the salt, letting the colors mix and mingle.
Continue adding colors until the salt is completely covered, and let dry.
Next, use a black permanent marker to fill in the star’s eyes. Your painting is complete!
Experiment with different color papers and watercolors!
