The next Legend of Zelda game, Breath of the Wild, looked breathtaking at E3 this year. Get ready for the newest installment of the franchise with this easy craft. You might not be able to get a Sheikah Slate that hangs on your side like Link–but you can make one to hang on your door!
What You Need
- Wooden door hanger
- Brown acrylic paint
- Gold craft foam
- Blue craft foam
- Light brown craft foam
- Craft knife
- Hot glue gun
- Paper hole puncher
- Sheikah Slate template (link below)
- Jute twine
Begin by painting the wooden door hanger brown on both sides. (If it has a design on one side, be sure to use more than one coat to cover it completely.) Let dry completely.
Next, print this template for the shapes you’ll need to cut out of craft foam. If you prefer to create your own shapes, use the image below for reference.
From the template, cut the round eye iris from the blue glitter craft foam. If you’re having trouble using the template to make a precise circle, you can trace a penny.
Use the hole puncher to make the pupil in the middle.
For the remaining shapes, use the gold glitter foam for the triangles above the eye, the “C” shapes that go around the blue eye, and the line shapes below. Use the hole puncher to cut 4 dots of the gold glitter foam.
Cut all remaining shapes out of the light brown craft foam for a total of 17 pieces.
It’s time to assemble the design! Use the glue or the sticky backing on the craft foam to create the design.
Begin with the middle gold triangle, and work your way down the hanger.
Next, use a small amount of hot glue to adhere the end of a string of the jute twine (at least 36″ in length) on the top back of the hanger.
Wrap the twine around the top of the hanger, centering it in the middle. Use the hot glue gun to adhere the other end of the twine when you’re wrapped it evenly.
Your door hanger is complete! Hang your Sheikah Slate from the doorknob to show off your love for all things Zelda.
