Rosalina’s Crown

Rosalina's Crown

My daughter’s favorite Super Mario character is a princess, yes, but not the princess you’re thinking of! Princess Rosalina, who made her first appearance in Super Mario Galaxy, has won the title of my kindergartener’s favorite Mario character.

Every princess needs a crown, so we decided to make Rosalina’s silver crown sturdy enough for dress-up play. Your little one will be as sparkly as a shooting star with this DIY Rosalina Crown.

What You Need

Rosalina's Crown

  • 12″ x 18″ piece of gray craft foam
  • Sliver and black glitter glue
  • Red and blue glitter glue
  • Elastic cord, about 12″ long
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • Printed star template (link below)

Get Started!

Grab the ruler and pencil to begin making your measurements. You can use the following image as a guideline:

The entire piece should measure 12″ long. (You should be able to get two crowns out of the 12″ by 18″ piece of craft foam.)

Draw your crown on the foam and cut along the lines.

Cover the foam in silver glitter glue and let it dry completely.

Next, print this four-pointed star and cut out the star to use as a template. Trace three full stars for each complete point, and two half stars on the end.

Trace the lines of the stars with black glitter glue. Next, use the same black glitter glue to draw a line along the top edge across the entire crown. Allow the black glitter glue to dry completely.

If you’re a perfectionist, use a quarter to trace a circle inside each four-pointed star (and a half-circle inside the two half-stars). Fill in the circles with alternating blue and red glitter glue, and let dry completely.

With the glitter glue completely dry, use the hot glue gun to draw a thin line of glue across one vertical edge of the crown. Hold the two edges together to glue it in place.

Finally, use a pushpin or your pencil to poke two holes on either side of the crown beneath two of the stars.

Cut the elastic cord to the best size for the dressed-up princess. Pull the elastic cord through one hole, going from the inside out. Tie a knot in the end and cut off the excess.

Repeat with the other end of the cord and the second hole.

Rosalina’s crown is complete! Your little princess is ready to soar through the stars.
