Super Mario Star Suncatcher

Super Mario Star Suncatcher

You and your kids will feel invincible after you create a Super Mario Bros. inspired star suncatcher!

What You Need

Super Mario Star Suncatcher

  • Wax paper
  • Yellow tissue paper
  • Star template (below)
  • School glue
  • Black Sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Scotch tape (to hang the star on the window)

Get Started!

Begin by printing this Super Mario star template. Next, cut the yellow tissue paper into a small pile of squares.

Tear a strip of wax paper from the roll, place it on top of the template, and use the black Sharpie to trace the star onto the wax paper.

Flip the wax paper over and apply a thin layer of school glue (or a thick layer in my daughter’s case), making sure the inside is completely covered. Feel free to go a little outside the lines as well as over the star’s eyes when spreading the glue.

Next, completely cover the glue with the small yellow paper squares.

Squares can overlap as much or little as you want — it’s your suncatcher! Again, feel free to go outside the lines with the paper (I recommend it, in fact) and cover the eyes as well.

Allow the star suncatcher to completely dry.

Once the glue is dry, cut the star along the black line (or just inside it if you prefer no black outline).

Stick a piece of translucent Scotch tape on the wax paper side, and hang the star on a sunny window! The eyes will shine through along with the pattern you created with the tissue paper.
